KINGS OF ARMENIA. Tigranes II ‘the Great’, 95-56 BC. Tetrachalkon (Bronze, 23 mm, 7.26 g, 11 h), Tigranokerta, circa 80-68. Draped bust of Tigranes II to right, wearing five-pointed tiara decorated with a star between two eagles and tied with a diadem. Rev. [BA]ΣIΛEΩΣ - [BA]ΣIΛEΩN / [TI]ΓPANOY The Tyche of Tigranokerta seated to right on rock, holding palm branch in her right hand; below, river-god Araxes swimming right. Kovacs 77. Leu Web Auction 9 (2019), 481 (overstruck on the same type). A very interesting overstrike. Heavy traces of overstriking, otherwise, very fine.

From a European collection, formed before 2005.

This coin was overstruck on a civic bronze from Arados with a veiled bust of Astarte on the obverse and a bull on the reverse. The well recognizable Aradian undertype is dated to CY POΔ = 174 = 86/85 BC
